As we prepare to open our public house, we find ourselves pausing to reflect on how far we’ve come. We first read Cheryl Strayed’s The Ghost Ship That Didn’t Carry Us just before deciding to have our third child and move to England—a concept that has since offered us reassurance and comfort when making monumental life decisions. In these moments we often find ourselves acknowledging our sister lives from shore, staying rooted in the sand.
